FAQ

Burial Rights

Some of my family is buried in Wildwood. How do I find out if there is any available space for my burial?

In the absence of a specific provision in a will, burial rights within family lots are transferred from one generation to the next in accordance with the laws of Pennsylvania State. If you happen to be a direct descendant of a lot owner, you may possess the right to be interred in that lot. Reach out to our staff to discuss.

How do I find out what remaining spaces are on my plot?

To find out the capacity of your lot, simply reach out to us either via email, phone, or in our office. Our staff hold the most updated records concerning all plots in the cemetery. If you contact us, we can ensure that you too will have access with this information. Please note that in order to secure any information regarding the cemetery’s lots you must provide proof of relation to the original lot owner. All other requests’ approval are determined on a case-to-case basis.

Do I need my original paperwork to open a grave?

No. Wildwood does not typically require the presence of your original paperwork. However, due to several incidents where records have been destroyed in our past storage facilities, if we have no current proof of ownership a descendant/patron’s proof will be used. All that is required is the proof that said deceased is a descendant of the grave’s owner(s) OR have permission from the owner. Please contact the office staff if you require a reissued set of documents for said grave.

Genealogy

I am researching a family tree; how do I find out more about my relatives buried at Wildwood?

You can start your search for individuals interred in Wildwood by contacting our office staff by emailing wildwoodcemetery@hotmail.com or calling us at (570) 323-8421. Please note that most of our records are not available for research other than by staff.

You can also find information at the James V. Brown Library’s electronic database which catalogues all of the local newspapers, or at the Taber Museum’s Lycoming County Genealogical Society. FindAGrave is also a free resource to assist with locating and identifying decedents, as well as establishing family trees.

Hours

What are the hours of operations at the cemetery?

Wildwood is open year-round, excluding days where inclement weather or construction impedes all access points.

Our office is open from 7:30AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday, and 9:00AM to 12:00PM on Saturdays, except for major holidays.

Access to the cemetery is currently during the hours of 7:30AM to 6:00PM from September 1st to March 31st, and 7:30AM to 8:00PM from April 1st to August 31st.

Maintenance

Why is there no grass at my loved one’s grave?

If a grave has been dug recently, it can take up to eighteen months or more for new grass to grow over the fresh earth. The cemetery’s grounds crew will fill in the grave with additional soil as needed. To report a sunken grave, please email us at wildwoodcemetery@hotmail.com or call us at (570) 323-8421.

I found a headstone that needs adjusted. What do I do?

If you notice that a stone is in need of attention, please reach out to our office staff with the following information: the name of the decedent, issue of said stone, and your contact information. Once the repair is complete, our staff will reach out to you to ensure you are updated. Please contact them at (570) 323-8421 to begin this process.

How do I install a monument or engrave an already-existing marker?

Only those who have claim of the grave may install headstones or order an engravement. Contact a monument dealer of your choosing to start the memorialization or engravement process. Please provide the monument dealer with all of the pertinent information of where said headstone is to be installed, such as the name of the deceased, lot owner(s), or nearby decedents. Regulations regarding headstones can be found here. Please contact our office at (570) 323-8421 with any questions.

If the monument is bronze and in need of a date tab, please let our staff know as soon as possible so we may acquire the appropriate style and era of date tab. All date tabs are free the year of the death; any dates reported after will incur a fee dependent on the current price at the time of request.

What is Perpetual Care?

Perpetual care, in Pennsylvania, started being required on November 15th, 1972, in accordance to Title 9 of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Every purchase in the cemetery after that date has had at least 15% of the purchase price allocated to an endowment that provides interest on which the cemetery operates. Since Wildwood Cemetery has been around for almost 110 years before this law, a majority of the cemetery is not under perpetual care. However, we treat the entire cemetery as if it is under perpetual care.

Perpetual care entails the removal of tree limbs, leaves, grass, and debris from the gravesite. Other maintenance requests can be made, but may incur charges depending on the level of attention required.

Pets

May I bury the remains of my pet in the cemetery?

Unfortunately, the burial of animal remains in our cemetery is not permitted. Please check back for updates.

Are pets permitted to be on cemetery grounds?

We advise patrons to not bring their pets into the cemetery, but we do understand the necessity of a walkable and serene location for families to visit and pay reverence to. Pets are allowed, as long as they are on leashes, are cleaned up after, and do not disturb or approach any graves within the cemetery.

Buying Cemetery Property

What is the price for a burial spot?

Wildwood Cemetery is divided into halves; the East and West sides. Each side is divided into sections (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, K, etc); those sections are then divided into plots/lots, and those are then divided into grave spaces. A grave space is approximately 4′ by 10′ and can fit 1 casket; we currently sell individual grave spaces, as well as full lots. Our current prices can be found here.

Does Wildwood offer payment plans, and who should I contact about them?

Wildwood Cemetery began offering payment plans in late 2022. We never wish to price any of our property or services to be unaffordable, and pride ourselves as one of the most accommodating cemeteries in our area. We know that even still it can be hard to afford, so we offer interest-free financing on purchases for up to a year. You can contact our office at (570) 323-8421 to begin a plan today.

Can I sell my grave or lot?

Please contact our office at (570) 323-8421 to discuss the reselling of your grave. As a non-profit cemetery, all grave sales made by third parties cannot exceed the original purchase price. In order for the party purchasing the resold lot to be considered the owner in the cemetery’s records, we require a $50 deed reissuance fee, all issued documentation, and the written consent of all parties.
