Wildwood Cemetery is proud to introduce the opening of Lycoming County’s first HyBrid Burial Grounds. A Hybrid cemetery offers the option of a traditional cemetery as well as a separate section that is exclusively for green burials. Wildwood Cemetery is also the only Green Hybrid cemetery within 50 miles of Williamsport.
With no vaults, no traditional headstones other than fieldstones, and an abundance of local flora to cover the grounds, we hope The Foreverglades at Wildwood will meet all of your expectations for an ecologically friendly burial. Wildwood Cemetery follows the standards and guidelines prescribed and set forth by the Green Burial Council, located in Folsom, CA. Their mission and vision of the all-natural green burial options can be found at… click the GBC icon below for more information about them.
The Green Burial Council is a nonprofit environmental certification and education organization that sets standards for natural burial in North America.
Enclosed in this information packet is what you need to know about Wildwood Cemetery’s new green burial option and scattering garden.
Wildwood Cemetery’s Green Burial Ground, “The Foreverglades”, is fully certified by the Green Burial Council (GBC).
We also have two new scattering areas in the cemetery; one called “Trails End”, located in the Mound portion of the cemetery, and the other in the “Meadow” portion of the Foreverglades.
Wildwood Cemetery only accepts the burial of decedents in its Hybrid section that have not been embalmed, or those embalmed with GBC-approved, nontoxic chemicals. The use of vaults within the Hybrid section is prohibited. All burial containers, shrouds, and other associated products to be used or placed at the gravesite are to only be made of natural, biodegradable materials.
Families may participate during the burial and ritual processes, within the purview of state laws and the standards of the GBC. Families may help lower the casket, fill the grave, or place symbolic items (flowers, soil, evergreen branches) at the gravesite.
Traditional headstones and manmade monuments are prohibited in The Foreverglades; however, small bluestone or fieldstone markers are available. With prior approval from the Wildwood Cemetery office, plants may serve as memorial features. In the Meadows section, species such as milkweed, coneflower, and bee balm are considered acceptable memorial plantings.
Wildwood Cemetery does not run or operate any funeral home, on or off of its premises, but we do encourage you to participate with us in the next fast-growing trend in the funerary industry. Wildwood Cemetery stands by its Mission Statement in ALL we do, and will incorporate all best practices of a Traditional and Green Hybrid Cemetery into our daily endeavors.
Rules and Regulations Regarding the Use of Green Burial Lots
Use of Lot:
· The purpose of our lots is strictly for the burial of human remains and does not imply or grant any other rights of use to said burial spaces.
· Burials are not permitted until the lot has been paid in full.
· Burials at Wildwood Cemetery may only be conducted during regular cemetery hours and only under the supervision of cemetery staff. Grave opening and closing charges are subject to change from year to year.
· Only 1 full burial is permitted in each grave space. Second interments are not permitted.
· Two cremation burials are permitted in one grave space.
· Multiple cremation burials on the same grave will be assessed a “Second Interment Fee”.
· Wildwood Cemetery does not permit and will not recognize the scattering of cremated remains outside of the designated scattering garden while under the supervision of cemetery personnel.
· The transfer or resale of grave spaces requires Wildwood approval, is subject to a documentation fee, and the updating of perpetual care.
· Lots being resold cannot be sold for more than the original purchase price.
Grave Markers:
· Only Bluestone Grave Markers are permissible, no larger than 12″ x 8″ and are only to be erected after burial. They are available from Wildwood for $250 (2026 price)
· Plastic or metal temporary markers are not permitted
· Benches or chairs are not permitted
Burial Containers:
· Burial coffins and Cremation containers must be composed of biodegradable materials i.e. pine box, seagrass, burial cloth, etc. The container cannot contain any artificial manmade components, i.e. plastic bags, nails, glass, etc.
Rules and Regulations Regarding Plantings and Lot Decorations:
· Only approved ground covers are permitted; unapproved ground cover WILL be removed
· Barriers of any type (bricks, fences, stone, etc.) are not permitted and WILL be removed.
· Only unwrapped loose flowers are permitted; no manmade decorations, metals, or artificial flowers
